How To Reduce Image Size Without Losing Quality On Tumblr
Your blog may be a labour of love, but if your lovingly produced photographs are downsized and lose quality when you submit them to Tumblr, it’s enough to make even the most loving person scream in rage. The problem is that Tumblr has extremely tight picture size requirements, and following them is the only way to avoid having your photographs shrunk.
Maximum Image Dimensions
Whether or not a picture gets scaled after being posted to Tumblr is determined on the width of the dashboard’s content area and the number of photos placed in each row. This width is 540 pixels as of the October 30, 2014, update, with no margins on either side; it is also the maximum allowable width for an image put in its own row. If you put two photographs in a row, they must be no bigger than 268 pixels and will be separated by a four-pixel gap. Similarly, three photos in a single row may be no bigger than 177 pixels apiece; they will be separated by four pixels, plus a one-pixel margin on the right side that you cannot delete.

What If That Doesn’t Work?
If you submit a picture that is bigger than the dashboard’s maximum width, Tumblr will automatically produce a scaled version to show on the dashboard. Although your visitors may still click on the photographs to see the full-size version, whether they’re reading your blog via the dashboard or visiting its page directly, the scaled images often seem noticeably worse than the originals. As a consequence of the resizing, static photos may lose clarity and seem fuzzy, and animated GIFs may lose their motion entirely and be presented as still images instead.
Large Image Uploading
The only occasion you may not care whether your photographs are downsized on the dashboard is if you’re uploading huge still images that you want your viewers to see in full size anyhow. In this instance, you should approach the dashboard picture as a preview that is beyond your control and concentrate on maintaining the highest possible quality of the full-size image. Tumblr allows for a maximum width of 1280 pixels and a maximum height of 1920 pixels for still pictures; photographs that exceed either or both dimensions will be scaled.
Existing Issues
One significant exemption to the pixel size requirements still exists as of November 19, 2014. Uploading 540-pixel-wide photos in JPG or PNG format works as expected; they display on the dashboard just as you submitted them, with no resizing. Images in GIF format, on the other hand, are presently broken; if you upload one that is 540 pixels wide, it will be shrunk to the previous maximum width of 500 pixels and then visually stretched to encompass the whole 540 pixels. You should make your GIF pictures 500 pixels wide until this problem is rectified. They will still be stretched on the dashboard, but you will have complete control over their quality, and animated GIFs will not be converted to stills.

Options for saving
When we save the file for the first time (File > Save… or File > Save As…), Illustrator’s settings dialogue box appears. Uncheck Create PDF Compatible File and check Use Compression to greatly decrease file size.

In rare cases, using the Create PDF Compatible File option may be necessary. In this instance, choose it at the final save (File > Save As…), after the task is finished. Using hyperlinked images
Your artwork may include raster pictures in addition to vector elements. You may include them in the document or have them appear as a consequence of specific procedures. Raster effects, for example, are converted into raster pictures after using the Expand Appearance command. Any raster graphic in your Illustrator project may be Linked Images or Embedded Images. Using solely Linked Photographs may significantly minimise file size, particularly when working with big, high-resolution images. The file containing the linked picture of these robot toys, for example, is 36.9MB in size. If you include this picture in a document, the final file size will be 36.9MB.

In circumstances when we still need to employ embedded pictures, we may use Rasterino to remove an unnecessary portion of an image. If the picture contains translucent or white pixels in the background, we may delete them by clicking the Trim Image button in the Rasterino panel (Window > Rasterino > Rasterino panel). Rasterino will erase areas of the picture that contain no relevant information when you pick the appropriate choices in the dialogue box.

Raster Effects Resolution Reduction
