A Guide to YouTube Banner Size in 2022
Do you want to know what the best YouTube banner size is? The YouTube banner is similar to a book cover for your channel page, so it’s critical for making a good first impression. In this post, we’ll discuss the best YouTube channel art size as well as some tips for creating a great channel banner.

Quick Guide to YouTube Banner Size
Here’s a quick summary of the image dimensions to use for YouTube banner size in 2022.
Size of YouTube banner recommended:
2560 x 1440 pixels. These are the banner dimensions recommended by YouTube, with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It is critical to understand that not all of the image will be visible on all viewing platforms. You can read more about why in the section below.
Minimum dimensions are 2048 x 1152 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Safe Zone for YouTube Banners
1235 x 338 pixels in size, centred. On all viewing platforms, not the entire image area is displayed. Because this is the part that will be visible on all devices, you should put any important information here, such as logos or titles. Anything outside of this range may be cropped on some devices and platforms.
The maximum file size is 6MB. This is a fairly generous size limit, and if you’re uploading JPGs or PNGs, it’s simple to stay under it.
Recommendations for YouTube Banner Size: A Step-by-Step Guide
There are three main areas on YouTube where you can add photos to your channel page. The first is your profile image, which appears on all Google properties. The second option is to use specific images as YouTube video thumbnails.
The third section of YouTube where you can upload photos—and the one I’m focusing on here—is referred to as “Channel Art.” However, it is more commonly referred to as the banner, the header, or banner art. This is essentially the same thing that other social media services, such as Facebook and Twitter, refer to as the cover photo or header image. It could be referred to as the hero image on a regular website.
YouTube Cover Dimensions:
Ideal, Minimum, and Maximum. Before we get into how to change and customise your YouTube channel’s channel art, you should make sure you’re using an image that meets the basic requirements for YouTube banner dimensions.
The Best YouTube Banner Dimensions
The ideal YouTube banner image size is 2560 pixels wide by 1440 pixels tall.
That’s the ideal, but there are some other constraints to be aware of in order for it to display reliably on a variety of viewing devices, from desktops to mobile phones to TV apps.
Dimensions of a YouTube Banner: Minimum Size
In practise, you may never have an image with those exact dimensions. Other sizes can still produce good results, but there are some basic requirements to consider.
The first is the image’s minimum size. While YouTube recommends using an image that is at least 2048 pixels wide by 1152 pixels tall for best results, you can get away with half that size if necessary. (However, a larger image will appear sharper.) However, if you try to upload one that is smaller than 1024 x 576, you will receive the following error message:
Dimensions of a YouTube Banner: Maximum Size
The maximum size is not limited by pixel dimensions, but rather by file size, which is limited to 6 megabytes. In practise, this is quite generous and will easily accommodate even very high-resolution JPG images.
However, many cameras and even smartphones produce JPGs that are much larger than that. In those cases, you must reduce the file size to less than 6MB before uploading. You can accomplish this by either lowering the resolution or increasing the compression. Most of the time, lowering the resolution is preferable (while still aiming for the ideal size, of course).
How to Put a YouTube Channel Banner on Your Website
If you’re just getting started with your YouTube channel, the channel art space will be empty by default. As a result, you’ll need to add some to get things going. If you already have a banner, changing the image is essentially the same process.
This can be done in either a web browser or the YouTube mobile app. Because there are some differences, albeit minor, between them, I’ll go over each one separately.
Using a Web Browser to Change the YouTube Banner
When you’re on your channel’s page, click on the profile image in the upper right corner and then select Your Channel.
After that, you’ll see two buttons: Customize Channel and Manage Videos.
Customize Channel Button on YouTube
(Note: If you’re replacing existing channel art, you’ll need to click on the small camera icon at the top right of the image instead–it appears when you roll the cursor over the image.)
Select Customize Channel.
This will bring up the Channel Customization screen in YouTube Studio. Select Branding from the top-level tabs. This brings up a screen where you can change your profile picture, add a video watermark, and change the image for your banner.
Make Your Own YouTube Banner Art
After that, you’ll be back at the Channel Customization panel. In the top right corner of the screen, tap the blue Publish button.
Changing the YouTube Cover’s Crop
The viewport is centred on the screen by default. As a result, the panoramic crops will show the entire width of the image through a narrow section in the middle. You can, however, move the crop to a different part of the image by adjusting the crop. Simply click the Adjust the Crop button in the bottom left corner.
The crop screen operates in an unusual manner in that it includes two areas. The horizontal panorama area, which will be used on desktop and mobile devices, is the clearest section in the middle. On YouTube-enabled TVs, the larger area with the grab handles is used.

Simply click and drag to move the crop. Use the white square handles on the corners to resize it.
After you’ve chosen the focus area, click the Devices Preview button in the bottom left to see how the changes will appear.
