Graphic design is a complex field comprising of many different factors to create the best and most appealing design that will reach out to the viewer and convey your message. The graphic design course at Blue Sky Graphics provides you with industry level training right from your home. There are many factors that go in the perfect graphic design, let’s check out how important typography is:

1. Know the basics

Your first move towards more successful typography is to understand a little bit about art. If you are unfamiliar with these principles, you may find that typography needs to be a very easy discipline. Yeah, if you recognise the alphabet you earned half the war right now? All that is left is to change the way it appears a little, and you have got a font yourself! In fact, typography is very complex, and it is as much science as it is art.

The morphology of a typeface includes very complex language, exact dimensions and general criteria that must be understood and valued. As in several design styles, you can only get away in violating the law if you know it well and deliberately making a point.
As you can see, producing a tonne of letters easily becomes difficult. The graphic above does a fine job at visually illustrating these words, but this is by no way a comprehensive collection at terminology and definitions that you ought to familiarise yourself with. For eg, words like x-height, kerning, and baseline are not even discussed in the graphic. You can spend a couple minutes searching the typographic glossary to get a stronger handle on all of these.

2. Follow your Heart

This article is not intended to be a systematic analysis of typography, so we will not discuss each of the words listed above in depth. However, kerning is something that both artists, modern and traditional, have utterly missed. I recently addressed this topic with the senior art director of a big women ‘s apparel website. The only thing that most irritated her regarding the designers under her is their persistent lack of kerning commitment.

What is this?

Kerning requires changing the distance between two letters in a specified font. Notice that this is a different concern than monitoring, which controls the gap for all letters at once. You may assume that an expensive software like Adobe Illustrator will immediately fix all kerning problems for you, and that this is therefore not the issue that occurs in your artwork. If you are not used to searching for kernel problems, the problems-be small, however they are there.

Kerning problems can get difficult when working with web fonts and CSS, but they are fairly simple to correct if you are making text as a graphic (for print or online) in Illustrator , Photoshop, etc. Simply insert your cursor between two characters and use the option in conjunction with the left and right arrow keys to adjust the spacing. Try not to concentrate on the letters as much as the negative space between the letters. Try to keep this room physically coherent throughout a term or sentence.

3. Be mindful of the contact of font

The collection of fonts can never be a subjective operation. Only searching through the whole catalogue to locate a font that you need would rarely yield a successful outcome. The explanation for this is that there is an intrinsic emotion involved with some styles of fonts. Find the following explanations to see what I mean:
If you are perceptive, these font choices are going to look really bad. The explanation for this is that there is a significant difference between the visual personality of the font choices and the words written by them. You will also never see the world’s leading ultimate fight champion screamed in a pleasant script font. By the same way, you will certainly never use Cooper Black for your wedding invites. We also gotten accustomed to having various styles of fonts used for some purposes.

Be mindful of the contact of font

Each font communicates certain attributes on both a conscious and a subconscious level. Two of the main fields of contact are gender and age. Consider the examples below.
Notice how the first two fonts strongly communicate a specific era. Similarly, the following two fonts both have distinctly gender-based characteristics. Thick hard-edge fonts tend to look more masculine and manly while curvy, thin fonts appear feminine and girly.

All of this might sound a little simplistic, but your typographical abilities can develop by leaps and bounds if you are willing to take this information out of the subconscious and instinctive portion of your brain and transform it into clear and deliberate motion.
